Human potential for a healthy future

“The importance of being Human” to paraphrase Oscar Wilde came into my mind yesterday when  on the news watching refugees of all ages and abilities on the move and trying to cross a river between Greece and Macedonia.

The human potential for hope, ambition and confidence at any time. Hope for a safer life, ambition for survival and confidence in reaching your destination and goal.

Rationally and cynically I can see, hear and understand how and why we are in this totally unacceptable situation today. Emotionally I cannot and will not. Accept the convenience of fear and danger in objectifying fellow human beings to an inconvenience disturbing our daily whereabouts – not reaching out and recognise the opportunity however challenging of finding a unifying, collective solution. A solution where we acknowledge our equal value and responsibility as human beings. If instead of treating refugees as an inconvenience to our relatively comfortable life we would combine our human ability to plan ahead, take charge and find strategic and pragmatic longer and short term solutions to complex challenges and situations. How could and would a Europe look today if there had been joined up leadership addressing the human potential and need in us all.  Could we create a stable environment and reasonable quality of life for us all? It has been done before so why not now? Is it the volume of people on the move, our values or lack of talent, ambition and willingness to in practice take on board a global responsibility and worldview where we as humans have a common interest in supporting and not destroying each other and ourselves?

A for Ambition in finding human and sustainable solutions

B for a healthy Balance between self-interest and a common goal

C for Confidence that we can make it better together than alone

Is this an ABC for a human future?
